PSALM 23 | THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
There are seasons when finances run dry, resources diminish, and confusion gives way to desperation. In such moments, we often forget a simple truth: like sheep, we were never designed to navigate life alone. We need a Shepherd. Scripture directs our attention to the only true One.
“The
Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” – Psalm 23:1
Before
David speaks of provision, he affirms identity. The Lord is his
Shepherd. This declaration flows from submission, trust, and dependence. A
sheep relies entirely on the shepherd for daily provision, protection, and
direction. In the same way, this verse calls us into a posture of surrendered
confidence.
If the
Lord is truly my Shepherd, then whatever I need for today—whether physical
provision or spiritual formation—rests in His care.
David
continues: “I lack nothing.”
This does not promise excess; it guarantees sufficiency. Under God’s
shepherding, there is no true deficiency.
Yet the
enemy often tempts us toward self-dependence, striving, and comparison by
magnifying what we think we lack. He shifts our focus from the Shepherd to
scarcity.
Psalm 23:1
reorients the heart. It teaches us to ask,
“Who is leading me?” rather than, “What am I missing?”
God is
fully aware of your needs. He is not indifferent, nor is He late. His provision
is both wise and timely. Instead of striving and worrying, we are invited to
trust His guidance.
Today,
like David, declare with confidence:
“The
Lord is my Shepherd. In Him I lack nothing, because I trust in His care.”
