The Storm Isn’t the Problem—Losing Sight of Jesus Is

 Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

There comes a time in life when you may feel shaken, confused, overwhelmed, disappointed, or discouraged by the circumstances around you. The situation may look bigger, greater, or impossible for you to overcome.

In such moments of uncertainty, the word of God in Isaiah 41:10 speaks directly to our hearts. God begins by dispelling fear and worry:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”

In the midst of trouble, His words not only command us not to fear but also remind us of this unchanging truth: I am with you. You are not walking alone. God’s presence becomes your strength, courage, and hope.

We see this in Joseph’s life. Even in his lowest moments, Scripture says, “The Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2). You too may be going through a difficult season, with the road ahead unclear. But God’s word reassures us that His presence remains, even when life throws us into the pit.

Isaiah 41:10 also redirects us to Whose we are: “I am your God.” Many times we forget this when we try to face life in our own strength. When our minds fixate on what isn’t working, what we can’t control, or what people are saying, fear rises.

In Matthew 14:30, Peter walked on water toward Jesus, but Scripture says: “When he saw the wind, he was afraid and began to sink.” Peter didn’t sink because the storm got stronger, but because he shifted his focus from Jesus.

In difficult moments, we must examine our focus. Are we looking at the storm, or are our eyes fixed on Jesus? Isaiah 41:10 invites us to shift our focus back to God—to let Him define our reality, not our circumstances.

The problem may seem big, but God is bigger.
The doctor’s report may look final, but God is your healer—Jehovah Rapha.
Your path may seem unclear, but He is your guide, your anchor, and your hope.

Like King Jehoshaphat, we can choose to lift our eyes above the crisis and onto the God who controls all things:
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)

Isaiah 41:10 carries a message of comfort, reassurance, strength, and hope. In the storms of life, faith rises when we fix our eyes on Jesus—the One who commands the storm. Losing sight of Him makes us sink, but fixing our eyes on Him restores strength, brings clarity, lifts courage, and stabilizes our peace even in the midst of the storm.

He is with you. He is your God. And He will uphold you.
