Storing Treasures in Heaven

Image
Matthew 6:20 (NIV) “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Every day, we are depositing something—either into earthly accounts or heavenly ones. Jesus gently reminds us that while earthly treasures have their place, they are fragile. They fade, break, rust, get stolen, or lose meaning over time. But heavenly treasures endure forever. Heavenly treasures are not things; they are the results of a life lived for God. Every act of love… Every moment of obedience… Every sacrifice made in secret… Every seed sown in generosity… Every prayer lifted in faith… Every soul touched by the gospel… These become eternal deposits that time cannot erase. Jesus did not say, “Do not have earthly treasures,” but rather, “Do not store only there.” Why? Because what we treasure reveals where our heart truly is. When we invest in heaven—through character, faithfulness, service, and love—we anchor our hearts in ...

Blessed Are the Meek – Strength Under God’s Control

Image
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” – Matthew 5:5 We live in a world that often applauds pride, aggression, and self-assertion more than humility. Meekness is misunderstood as weakness, yet Scripture defines it as strength under God’s control . It is the ability to remain steady, wise, and gentle even when wronged. In 1 Samuel 25, both David and Abigail demonstrate the kind of meekness that God blesses. David and his men had protected Nabal’s flocks day and night. Naturally, when the time of sheep-shearing came—a season of celebration—David expected kindness in return. Instead, Nabal insulted him. David reacted in anger, gathering four hundred armed men to take vengeance. Like David, when we are repaid with evil for our good, we often ask, “Is this how you choose to repay me?” Reacting is immediate and emotion-driven, fueled by anger, frustration, or the desire for revenge. It looks only at the moment, not at the consequences. This is how David responded t...

WALKING WITH GOD IN EVERY SEASON

Image
How Joseph’s Life Reveals God’s Faithfulness Through Every Stage of Our Journey Like the tides of water, life seems to follow the movement of rising and falling. Even as seasons in our lives keep on changing, God doesn’t. He remains faithful in every season. His presence meets us even in the most unlikely and unfamiliar places and in desperate situations. His presence goes with us even when circumstances appear as though we are abandoned, forgotten, and defeated. God is the author of your story, just as He was with Joseph’s. He’s writing new chapters and preparing your breakthroughs, unimagined new opportunities, and restoration. In Genesis 39, Joseph finds himself in unfamiliar circumstances. Being sold as a slave in a foreign land would only indicate that his life was on a downward trend. However, even as the tide turned against him, painting a picture of loneliness, betrayal, and abandonment, he was not alone. Genesis 39:2 reads, “ The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered .” G...

FROM PIT TO PALACE: TRUSTING GOD'S TIMING

Image
“ Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: he will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday .” -Psalm 37:5-6 Life can sometimes take you through a series of unfair events like betrayal, false accusation and a long season of waiting mixed with loneliness. When going through these dark times when your faith is put to the test, Psalm 37:5-6 reminds us to surrender ourselves to the LORD, He will help us get through it, even when situations seem overwhelming and unclear. In the Bible, Genesis 37-50 gives the story of Joseph, who was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and thrown into prison for a crime he didn’t even commit. Even as he went through all these difficult times, he didn’t complain or respond in anger and bitterness, but chose to trust in God. So often, when we experience betrayal, false accusation and being forgotten, we then respond with resentment, anger and holding grudges against...

WHEN WAITING FEELS ENDLESS: TRUSTING GOD BEYOND THE DELAY

Image
Even when God’s promise seems distant, His timing remains perfect and His word never fails. “ And the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised .” – Genesis 21:1 Chapter sixteen begins with Sarai (later Sarah) expressing her impatience with God for not blessing her with a child. She goes to Abraham and complains about it, suggesting that he should take Hagar, their servant, as his wife and bear him children. “ The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her. ” -Genesis 16:2. Like Sarah, we sometimes grow impatient with God and doubt His divine plans for us. His plans for each one of us are perfect and complete. It doesn’t need our striving to fulfil His promises; it requires our trust in Him. When waiting feels endless, it can sometimes feel like God is distant and has forgotten about you. Like Sarah, we come up with strategies and plans to help God with His promises, which usually don’t work and end in conflict and disappo...

God Calls, Covers, and Completes

" Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus ". -Philippians 1:6 In Nehemiah Chapter Two, we find Nehemiah heavily burdened by the news he received about the city of Jerusalem, whose walls were broken down and gates burned with fire. Nehemiah, still in exile, served as a cupbearer for the Persian king. As he was serving the king with wine, the king noticed that Nehemiah was troubled at heart. Nehemiah told the king about how the city of Jerusalem was in ruins and asked for permission to rebuild it. Not only that, but he also asked for resources to rebuild it. And the king granted his request. The king of Persia could have denied Nehemiah’s request, but instead, he granted it. All these requests were granted to Nehemiah, “ because the gracious hand of my God was on me .” – Nehemiah 2:8. God has a purpose and a mission for each one of us. Even before we realise what His missions for us are, Hi...

FAITH THAT STANDS THE TEST

Image
When God is all you have left, you’ll find He’s all you need The book of Job opens by describing how wealthy and blessed Job was, and how he was an upright and blameless man who feared God. It goes on to show how Satan went before the LORD, suggesting that Job only served God because of the blessings God had given him. When Satan got permission from God, he went forth and brought a series of damage and loss in Job’s life. He lost his properties, flock, servants and his children. One moment, everything was great, and the next, it was grief. Like Job, perhaps you are experiencing moments of testing in your life that you don’t understand. The storms of life can sometimes be overwhelming and confusing, especially when everything seems to come against you all at once. It gets even more difficult when you can’t properly process the loss. What do you do when life seems to turn upside down on you? When going through heartbreak, loss, financial crisis or battling an illness, who do you turn...

ALWAYS BEFORE ME

Image
“I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” – Psalm 16:8 A sunflower got its name from both its appearance and behaviour. By appearance, it resembles the sun with its yellow petals and round center, hence the name sunflower . But that’s not the only explanation for its name. When sunflowers are young, they are known to turn their heads to follow the rising of the sun through the sky from east to west during the day. That movement is described as heliotropism. [ derived from “helios,” sun and “tropism” turn]. However, when they mature, their stems stiffen and permanently cause them to face the east, which shows their renewal and faithfulness. The sunflower got its name from how it turns its head towards the sun. Steadily and unwaveringly, it follows the sun from dawn to dusk since its life depends on it. I believe there’s something we can learn from this - the sunflower’s devotion to follow the Light . As believers in Christ Jesus, we are r...

THE ALMIGHTY GOD WHO GOES AHEAD

Image
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8 Are you afraid of the uncertainties in your life? Do you feel discouraged by what’s happening in your life or by the mountains that stand against you? Well, be not afraid nor discouraged by the obstacles that stand against you, for the LORD is with you. You are not alone.  Deuteronomy 31:8 hold both a promise and an encouragement to God’s people whenever we find ourselves in unfamiliar territories or in circumstances that are overwhelming and discouraging. If there’s anything that is both terrifying and confusing, it's journeying alone. Especially when you don’t have a single clue of what lies ahead and how to manoeuvre through the unknown. Going through the storms of life can sometimes feel like walking into the unknown, not sure what to do or the dangers that lie ahead. And when the journey gets tougher, we may...
