The Power of Looking to the LORD
“Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” – Psalm 105:4
When faced with uncertainties, not sure what to do, who do you turn to and where do you go? When faced with challenging situations, it is easy to focus our minds on the present circumstances and choose to rely on our own strength. However, Psalm 105:4 invites us to always look to the LORD.
David begins by writing, “Look
to the LORD,” which encourages us to focus our attention on the LORD, to
rest our hope and trust in Him. God is the source of every good thing that we may
need. Sometimes we are uncertain of what to do, which way to go and how to do
it. But when we look to God for directions and guidance, He always provides the
right path to follow when we feel lost.
In 2 Chronicles 20:2,
Jehoshaphat faced enemies and didn’t know what to do; he looked to the Lord and
prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” And surely, the
LORD came through for him. Hebrews 12:2 also encourages us to “fixing our eyes
on Jesus,” that’s where our help comes from.
“And his strength”
is the one that sustains us when we experience difficult moments in life. When we
look to God for help, He provides the strength, the encouragement, and the hope
to get through the most challenging times in our lives. His strength comes
strong in moments when we feel like giving up, when the pain of loss is too
great, and when life gets too dark that you can’t tell which way to go. Our strength
is always limited, but His strength is limitless, and we can choose to lean on
His strength.
“Seek his face always.”
God desires that we continually pursue His face, thereby developing a personal
relationship with Him. As we seek His face, His ways, character and presence
become known to us. Seeking God’s face shouldn’t be during the difficult times
only, but continually.
Reflection.
We are reminded in Psalm
105:4 to continually develop a personal communion with God. Only God can
provide the strength we need during our difficult times. No matter how our situations
may look, we can stand on Psalm 105:4 to help us draw the strength we need from
God. He is the source of our strength and hope in our darkest seasons.
Devotional thought.
When life becomes so
heavy and overwhelming to you, stop and consider: What am I focusing on? Have I
fixed my eyes on my present circumstances or on God? This presents an
opportunity to look to God and seek His face through prayer, worship and thanksgiving.
Prayer
Father in Heaven, we
thank you for your ever-present help in our lives. We seek your face for
strength, for hope and peace at such a time when we are faced with difficult
situations in life. Help us to trust you more, and to lean on you for guidance
and direction. Our eyes are on you, Lord. Amen.
