He Leads the Way, I Follow His Light
“See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” Exodus 23:20
If you are wondering how you will get through today, next week, or next month based on your present circumstances, or if you are uncertain about the path God has set for you, then Exodus 23:20 is for you.
In Exodus 23:20, God
sends an angel ahead of His people to guard and guide them to their Promised
Land. The angel represents God’s presence and His authority. What He did to the
Israelites then, He is still doing it today. Even now, He goes ahead of us, guarding
and guiding us to the place He has prepared.
Sometimes, life takes us
by surprise. We find ourselves in places and situations where we thought we
would never be. So, we worry about our next provision, or how to move on after
the loss, or what to do about certain things that seem unfamiliar to us. It may
all come as a surprise, but not to God. He knows what’s ahead of us, the things
we will need, and He has already prepared provisions for every step we may take
in life.
We serve the God who goes
ahead of us, who prepares provisions ahead of time, and the One who is never
late on His promises and plans for our lives. Our part to play is trusting in
His leadership. As He leads the way, we follow His light. As David writes in Psalm
119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
We don’t have to focus
our minds on the ‘What Ifs’ of tomorrow, but we can choose to focus our
minds on the One who is present with us in our messy situation. A lamp in
darkness only shines light for your immediate steps and not a thousand steps
ahead. And that’s how the word of God guides us when we feel like we are in the
dark; it guides us to our next step. The Light illuminates the broader
direction for our lives.
In Exodus 23:20, God goes
ahead and prepares the way; in Psalm 119:105, His word is lamp and light to our
path. Not only does He prepare the road ahead, He shines light in every step we
take in life through His word. When life becomes uncertain, there’s one thing
to be certain about: We are never alone; God is with us. Today, we can choose
to rest our confidence in God. He knows what we will need even before the need
arises. He understands our struggles, and God is our only refuge and fortress
in times of trouble. He’s the One who walks before you and beside you; you can trust
in Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank
you for your presence that goes ahead of us, preparing the way, guarding us and
guiding us through your word. In the midst of uncertainties, we are certain
that you are with us just as you promised. May we find peace and joy in your
presence, amen.
