Keep On the Good Work

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9

When a farmer goes to work in the farm, he begins to prepare his fields by ploughing, he applies fertilizers, he plants the seeds into the ground. But, that’s not the end; a farmer knows his fields will require continuous management such as weeding, pest control and additional application of fertilizers. The farmer does not grow weary in doing all that are required of him, for he knows in due season, he will reap big if he keeps up the good work.

Like a farmer who goes to work in his field, God has called us to work in His fields. Each one of us is gifted with specific gifts to accomplish His will in areas where we are planted. The work that we are assigned to do may not always be the easiest, and the outcome may not always be immediate in as much as we would want them to. However, we are encouraged not to give up, and not to become weary in doing good in whatever capacity that God has called us because He has promised that in due season we shall reap a harvest.

Sometimes we focus our minds on the results, the outcome of our work, and when we don’t see anything good coming out of it, we give up. We abandon the work which God has called us to do, simply because we are faced with various kinds of opposition, or because we are not where we thought we would be by now. If that’s you, then be sure of this, God is calling you to continue doing the things that He has called you to do. As we are reminded in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” when you are faced with various challenges or when you don’t see any positive results yet. Keep moving and keep doing the good work, your due season in near.

When tempted to give up on the work which God has called you to do, remember He who called you in the first place. God is your reward; He is faithful and capable of keeping His promise upon you. Genesis 15:1 states: “I am your shield, your very great reward.” Lift up your face and look up to God, He is your reward and He generously rewards those who are committed and faithful to the course.

When a farmer plants a seed into the ground, he understands that the seeds will not yield its crop the following day. The farmer knows that there is a process between planting stage and harvesting stage. And in the process, there’s patient, and in patient there’s perseverance, and in perseverance there’s commitment, and in commitment there's growth. In the same way, as we continue to do God's will, we are called to be patient in the process, to persevere in trying times, to stay committed in the course and to grow in God's Word.

Staying committed to God’s will, means to do what God has asked you to do even when  you don’t feel like it, you stay committed even when you don’t see any positive change yet, and even when you don’t get any recognition from people because God sees every work and effort you put into accomplishing His will. And when you do what God has commanded you to do; you it joyfully and with humility without grumbling in your heart.

Perhaps you are in your ‘don’t’ season, the dry season. A season where you feel like God is far from you, or perhaps you feel like God has forgotten about you, of perhaps you are wondering whether you are in the right path to which God has called you. This is what God says: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6

God hasn’t forgotten about you, He called you to serve Him and gave you the gifts that you have knowing very well that you could do it. God still has a special purpose for you, and there is a reward that awaits you when you do His will to completion. Remember, God is your reward. Consider what Jesus did while He was here on earth. He was so focused in doing the Will of His Father who is in heaven. He remained faithful and committed to the course. Though He went through persecution, He didn't give up on the will on His Father in heaven. And He certainly did not grow weary of doing good.

To what ministry has God called you? What gifts has God given you? Paul writes in Romans 12:6-8, “If your gift is prophesying then prophesy in accordance with your faith, if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently, if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”

Whatever gifts you have and in whatever capacity God has called you, then keep on doing the good work, do not give up or be weary in doing it for in due season you will reap. God bless you.
