Cast Your Burdens Unto Jesus Christ
‘Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.’ – 1 Peter 5:7
In the book of 1 Samuel, there was a certain man by the name Elkanah, who had two wives. One of his wives was Peninnah and the other Hannah. Peninnah had children but Hannah had none. Because Hannah could not have any children, Peninnah used it to provoke her. She made fun of her with the intentions of irritating her. This went on for years. At one time when they went to worship God, Peninnah continued to provoke Hannah to the point where she couldn’t take it anymore she wept bitterly and refused even to eat. In her anguish and grief, she presented her petitions before the Lord.
Like Hannah, so many people are walking around carrying so much grief, pain, guilt and bitterness in their hearts. The troubles that we carry alone on our shoulders have become so heavy on us to the point where we no longer live as joyfully as God intended. You were not meant to do life on your own; it is not right for you to hold on to the pain, the unforgiveness, the bitterness, and the wrongs things done to you in your heart.
We are encouraged in 1 Peter 5:7, to “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Whatever troubles you may carry that seems to weigh you down, or whatever things that keep on stealing your joy, I would like to let you know that you can turn it over to the Almighty God. Jesus Christ cares about you. He hasn’t forgotten about you and He sees how hard you try to do everything on your own.
For a person who deeply cares about you wouldn’t want to see you struggle with something. That person would be quick to offer you a hand. If a person can do that to another, then how much more would the Almighty God do when we go to Him since He cares for us. Because of his greater love for us, Jesus Christ extends his helping hand saying, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”- Matthew 11:28
We all need help God’s help. There’s no problem too hard for him that he can’t solve or a burden to heavy that he can’t lift. Whenever you find yourself lost in your worries and troubles of life and you are not sure what to do. Consider what God said in Genesis 18:14, “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Ask yourself, “Is my troubles too big for the LORD? Are my worries too heavy for the LORD?” Nothing is ever too big or too complex or too heavy for the LORD to handle. Hence, you and I are continually encouraged to cast our anxieties to the LORD for He cares for us.
After Hannah had presented her petitions to God in prayers, the scripture says, “Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.” – 1 Samuel 1:18. She took her troubles to God and left them in God’s hands. She was no longer in grief or depressed, but at peace. Hannah trusted the LORD and in return she got her joy back and rest.
We need to come to that point where we say, ‘enough is enough’. It is time that we let go of the pain, the hurt, the unforgiveness, the guilt and the worries and hand them over to God. Carrying them in our hearts will only weigh us down, and suck out our joy. Whatever thing that may be troubling your heart, it is time to surrender it over to the LORD. For some people when they surrender their anxieties to God, they still want to continue carrying their burdens by worrying and trying to figure out things on their own. No. When you cast your anxieties to God, you do it for good and you leave it in his hands. The battle no longer becomes yours to fight but God’s. That’s what it means by surrendering over to God.
Jesus Christ promises us rest when we come to him. In order to get rest which Jesus talks about, it is important that we first come to him. The kind of peace that God gives transcends all understanding.
Sometimes the devil makes us believe that God has forsaken us, and forgotten about us. That isn’t true. The truth is God has always been present in our lives, but it is we who have chosen to sideline Him. We no longer put him first in everything that we do and we no longer come to Him whenever we are faced with challenges. The Almighty LORD still holds the door open for us to come to Him and cast our anxieties to Him and He will give us rest just like He promised. The Lord God is true to His word. He will never let you down when you choose to lean on Him. Let Today be the day you choose to come to Him.
