TURN NORTH
“You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.” – Deuteronomy 2:3
In Deuteronomy, we learn about the journey of the Israelites and their rebellion against God when they chose to attack the Amorites which was against God’s command. And because of this, the Amorites beat them down and chased them from Seir and they were left to wander around the hill country of Seir in the wilderness.
The word of God came to Moses to instruct the people of Israel to turn north for they had wandered around the hill for far too long.
You and I are not any different from the children of Israelites. We have disobeyed God and turned our hearts away from Him. Because of our disobedience to God, we are left to wander in the wilderness with no sense of direction. Because of our sins, our arrogance, and disobedience we are no longer headed to the place where God intended us to go. Our sins have made us to wander in this world for far too long.
Just as God told the children of Israelites to ‘turn north’, He’s telling us the same thing: ‘Now turn north’. For someone who has been lost and wandering in the wilderness may ask, ‘Where is north?’ Jesus is the true North. If you have been wandering and lost in the world and you don’t know which way to go; Jesus is the way, He’s your true North.
Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus Christ is the way to life and we all need to turn to Him. God has revealed to us the way to Him and that is through Jesus Christ. Now, this gives us a chance to ‘turn north’, to turn to Jesus, which also mean to follow Him and obeying His commands.
We all got a choice to make. The choice of turning to Jesus and have an everlasting life; or to turn to the world and in the end lose it. When we decide to go down the right path of following Jesus, it is important that we repent our sins. Repentance means turning away from sin and turning towards Jesus.
Turning towards Jesus indicates the personal choice you have made in your heart to commit to Him. It’s a sign of commitment, dedication and devotion in Jesus Christ.
Jesus continues to say, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” – John 14:15. Our obedience to God’s commands should come from a place of love. It is a choice we have to make when we commit our life to Jesus Christ. Loving God and keeping His commandments go hand-in-hand. You cannot say that you love God and yet you continue to disobey His commands. If we truly love God with all our hearts, then we would fully obey His commands and put His teachings into practice.
It doesn’t really matter the things you’ve done in life, or the sins you’ve committed. What matters is your willingness to answer His call at your door, and your willingness to humble yourself before the Lord and obey His commands. “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” – Revelation 3:19
The Lord Jesus Christ wants to come into our lives and into our hearts, he stands at the door knocking and waiting for us to open the door and welcome Him inside. Jesus Christ is the way, and the truth and the life. He desires us to have an everlasting life and that no one should perish and that can only happen if we chose to open the door to our hearts and let Him in and allow Him to be the Lord of our lives.
It is my prayers that we would turn towards Jesus Christ and surrender our lives over to Him and choose to follow Him and obey His commands because we have chosen to love Him and to follow Him.
