The Promises of God
Psalms 119:16, “I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil.”
It is normal to see parents promising their children good things. And when they hear of their parents’ promises they rejoice because of the confidence they have in their parents. God being our Father and we his children, He too has proclaimed wonderful promises to us. God has promised us a better future, eternal life, promise of prosperity, provision, peace, protection, and a promise of His presence.
Do you know God’s promises in your life? The promises of God in our lives are like treasures, and he who knows these promises rejoices in them because of the confidence they have in God the Father who is more capable of fulfilling them without fail.
Think about it, suppose you find a treasure of greater value in your land. Will you go ahead and ignore it and treat it as something of lesser value? No. If you find treasures in your land, you would take hold of it and rejoice; you would protect it because it means something to you. The promises that God declares in our lives are even worth more than earthly treasures.
When you hear the promises that come from the word of God, you would rejoice, you would hold them close to you and never losing sight of them even in times of trouble. And when trouble comes upon you, you will neither be shaken nor discouraged because you have held on to the promises of God the Father on whom you have set your confidence. God’s promises to you and I sets a foundation for us to remain joyful even in times of trials and testing since we know that He is faithful.
Unlike us who sometimes break our promises and cannot be relied on, God will never break His promises. God is faithful to His Word and true to His promises. In Him you can rely on, depend on and have confidence in at all times.
God has promised that He will always be on your side even in times of trouble. It doesn’t matter how great or strong your enemies may look, His promise still stands. Deuteronomy 20:1, “When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the Lord your God who brought you up out of Egypt will be with you.”
And when you feel abandoned and forgotten, God promises still remains: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”- Hebrews 13:5. And in Isaiah 49:15, “I will not forget you.”
Perhaps you are there wondering whether God hears you, or whether he sees your sufferings or you are thinking that God is far away. Be encouraged, He says in Isaiah 58:9: ‘then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: “HERE I AM”’
Perhaps the pressures of life are so heavy on you and you feel like you just can’t keep up with it. God has a promise for you, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Mathew 11:28
The Lord Jehovah will meet all your needs, He will provide for you, protect you, heal you, encourage you, and forgive you all of your sins because He loves you. All that is required of you is to believe in Him and repent of your sins and live according to His ways.
I pray that we all live according to His statutes and precepts as we firmly hold on to His numerous promises He has given to us through His word. God delights in fulfilling his promises to us. Hold on to them, don’t give up on Him, no matter how long it takes, He will fulfill it.
