The Lord Is on your Side

In the sixth chapter of 2 Kings, we read about the King of Aram and his armies with horses and chariots marching out towards Dothan to capture one man by the name Prophet Elisha. The Aramean armies went to Dothan and surrounded the city where Prophet Elisha was. Early in the morning, the servant of the Prophet went out and discovered that the armies had surrounded the city. In great fear he reported what he had seen to Elisha and he replied, “Don’t be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Elisha then prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” – 2 Kings 6:16

Then the Lord opened the eyes of the servant and he saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Have challenges ever come so strong against you to the point where you feel like you are surrounded, defenseless, overwhelmed and overpowered? Yes, this is true because we see our opposition as something so difficult to conquer. Just like the servant of the Prophet, we become fearful, worrisome and full of despair. It may all seem like we are alone, but that is not so. We are not alone. “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” – Psalms 118:6

Elisha prayed so that his servant could see the unseen by the natural eyes. The Lord opened his eyes and he was able to see the Lord’s army on their side. You need to see things through the eyes of faith. The Lord God is with you on your side, fighting for you. There are people behind the scenes who are praying for that you may not be aware of. In the spiritual realm, things are happening on your favor.

Prophet Elisha told his servant, “Don’t be afraid” because he saw and knew that they were not alone. Elisha knew that the forces that were for him were much greater and stronger than those that were coming against him. That is the kind of faith we all need to cultivate in our day-to-day life.

Problems may come against us from various angles, difficulties in finances, health problems, family issues, relationship issues or slow business. This shouldn’t push us into being worrisome but rather it should enable us to see things through God’s eye and say: If the Lord is on my side; who dares be against us?

Don’t be afraid of whatever things may come against you. The enemy’s first point of attack is in your mind. He will want you to feel afraid and scared. But that shouldn’t be the way we ought to live our life. We serve the Almighty God, the Creator of Heaven and earth, the one who parted the Red Sea and made the Israelites walk on dry ground. The Almighty God is bigger than your problems; you don’t need to be afraid when He’s on your side. All we got to do is believe in Him, and let God fight your battles for you.

When God fights your battles for you, He leaves you saying, “Oh My! There’s no way I could have done it on my own. God did it for me. All this time, He’s been on my side.” For as long as God is on your side, you are assured of victory. He gives you peace to get you through the storm. No matter what the enemy may do, or say their plans won’t bear any fruits because God is always on your side.

Psalm 46:7 reads, “The Lord Almighty is with us”. This should really sink deep within. The Lord God is with you, you are not alone. People may rise against you; problems may also arise against you but the Lord won’t let you fall. He will be your shield, your defender, your strength and your strong tower. When God goes to work He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” He wants you to stay in peace, not to be afraid, or being worrisome.

It is my prayers that despite the challenges that we are experiencing or those that are to come, we will be still and hold fast to God’s promises knowing that He is for us.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1
