REMEMBER THE GOODNESS OF GOD

"I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. Psalm 143:5"

In life, challenges will always be there. And when challenges knock at your doorstep, the questions that arise are how do you fight your battles, to whom do you turn to, and from where do you draw your strength?
In the Bible, David was no exception when it came to challenges of life. He writes, “The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead.”- Psalm 143:3. David had his own problems to deal with. Saul tried to kill him several times and even after he became king of Israel he also faced various forms of opposition in his kingdom.

Like David, we also face our own set of challenges. We have financial problems to deal with, health issues, and problems at work, depression, problems at home or in relationships. Dealing with life’s challenges may sometimes drain you both emotionally and physically. You may feel like you can’t go on, because of the pressures of life and you may not know where and how to draw the strength to keep you moving.

David writes, “I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.” Even though David had his own problems to deal with as well as enemies who sought to kill him; he chose to remember and meditate on the good works of the Lord God. In the midst of your turmoil, what do you choose to focus your mind on? Do you focus on the troubles that are arising against you or do you remember and meditate on how God came through for you?

When you are going through something difficult in your life it is important that you remember the times that God had been good to you. Do you remember that time when you were sick in your bed and you thought that sickness would take you but God came through and healed you? Do you remember that time when you hit a dead end and God came through and provided a way for you? Do you remember that time when you had no job, no money, nothing to live on but God came through for you and sustained you? Do you remember that time when you lost your loved ones, and the pain of losing someone you loved was so overwhelming but God came through for you and comforted you?
What do you remember about the goodness of God in your life? God is faithful and will always be faithful. God is good, and His goodness will endure forever.

The faithfulness and the goodness of God are the things that you and I need to remember and meditate on during our trying times. When we remember how God has been good to us, how he’s been faithful to us; it is through this that we are able to draw enough strength to keep us moving.

You and I are called to remember and reflect on the goodness and the amazing works of God. When we do this, God gives us the strength to overcome the pressure, strength to move on, joy to hope again and power to overcome the pain. Not only does God give us the strength but also His peace. When we are at peace in the midst of turmoil, the enemy can’t overcome us, because we then have God on our side who works His will through us.

It is through remembrance of God’s goodness in our life and what He did for our forefathers of faith that we are able to develop a heart of gratitude within us. Give thanks to God for He is good. Give thanks to God for He is still on the throne and He’s got the best plans for your life. Give thanks to God for His great love for you. Someone may ask, ‘How do you fight your battles?’ and you would say, ‘I fight my battles by remembering the goodness of God and the amazing work of his hands in my life and I meditate on them.’

It is my prayers that we may constantly remember the goodness of God in our lives and meditate on them in the midst of our trials. May God hear our cry and come to our relief in our times of trouble as He did in the days of long ago.
