JESUS SEES YOU
Follow Me
“Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” – John 1:48
In the first chapter of John, we read about Jesus calling his disciples. When he had called Philip to follow him, Philip then went ahead and found Nathanael. Philip told Nathanael, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” – John 1:45
Nathanael still unmoved by what Philip had told him, he asked, “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” – John 1:46. Philip seeing this he said, “Come and see.” The two went to see Jesus, and as Nathanael was approaching Jesus said, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
This too confused Nathanael even further which made him ask, “How do you know me?” – John 1:48. And Jesus answered, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” – John 1:48.
The calling of Nathanael is still very significant in our present time. Jesus is calling us for a special purpose. He wants us to follow in his footsteps. He has much more greater things for us to bear witness. Just like Nathanael, we are held back by our own unbelief, we’ve grown comfortable in areas we are familiar with not knowing that there is so much more that Jesus has in store for us when we choose to follow Him.
Even before Philip had gone to call Nathanael, Jesus saw him, knew him and had a special slot waiting for him. Jesus sees you. He knows where you are in life, what you’ve been through, the amazing dreams you once had inside of you and even the ones you have given up on. You may feel like your life no longer has any meaning, no sense of direction or purpose. Life may have dealt you the bad way leaving you with pain, despair and bitterness. But, here is the Good News: God sees you. The promises that He gave you are still fresh like a new day. God has not cancelled His promises on you because life became hard on you. God still sees you and remembers. Take this chance to answer His call on your life and believe again in whatever mission or purpose God is calling to.
You are not forgotten, and you are not alone. God still sees you and remembers you. Jesus is calling you to a special purpose and that is to follow Him. Just like Nathanael we tend to ask the obvious question, “How do you know me, Lord?” God knew each one of us even before we were formed in our mothers’ womb; and before we were born, he had already set us apart for a special purpose.
Your environment or your present circumstance may try to make you believe that you will never amount to anything; that nothing good will ever come from your household; or that you can never rise above your present situation. You don’t need to believe that anymore. For as long as God sees you, He has good plans for you. God declares in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jesus Christ is calling you. Are you willing to answer his call? Jesus Christ is calling you to follow in His footsteps, are you willing to take that first step of faith?
Jesus told Nathanael, ‘You will see greater things than that. Very truly I tell you, you will see “heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on” on the Son of Man’ – John 1:50-51. Jesus Christ is encouraging us not only to believe but also but also to walk the walk of faith. It is all a journey with Christ Jesus. And when we journey together with Him, He promises greater things for us to enjoy and witness.
I pray that despite the present circumstances that you may be in right now, that you will continue to hold on strongly in the hope of Christ Jesus who has called each one of us for a special purpose. Jesus Sees you, He hasn’t forgotten about you.
Psalm 54:4 – ‘surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.’
