God Will Fight your Battles
After King Jehoshaphat had finished praying, the word of the Lord came to the king through Jahaziel saying: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours but God’s” – 2 Chronicles 20:15.
It’s amazing how God chose to reply to King Jehoshaphat’s prayers: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army.” God knew that the kind of problem the King was facing at the time was too great for him overcome. Before God offered a solution to the problem at hand, the first thing He says is: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. Why would God begin His statement by saying, ‘Don’t be afraid or discourage’. He wanted the King to first overcome his fears in order to create room for faith.
Isn’t that amazing? The first thing that God fights in our life is the spirit of fear before He provides the solutions that we seek from Him. The spirit of fear, doubt and unbelief are the things that prevent God from working greater things in our lives. For as long as fear, doubt and unbelief dwells in our heart all that we will ever see are weaknesses, dead-ends, defeats, and lack. But when we allow faith to dwell inside of us then we begin to see possibilities, victories, and strength.
God knows the kind of battles you are fighting in your life, the kind of struggles and challenges you deal with everyday, He knows it all and He hears your cry. As He had told Jehoshaphat, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army”, He’s telling you and I not to be afraid or discouraged concerning the things that we struggle with. God is encouraging us to believe in Him, to stand firm in our faith and to set our eye on Him rather than setting our eyes on the challenges we face every day.
The second part of God’s response to Jehoshaphat was: “For the battle is not yours but God’s” – 2 Chronicles 20:15. How good it is to know that you got God on your side fighting for you, defending you, supporting you and encouraging in every step of the way. When you are facing various trials in life the first thing you would want to know is; ‘Who is on your side? Who can you run to? From whom will you get a lasting support?’ The good news is that you no longer need to worry about that anymore because God is on your side and He’s fighting your battles.
The problems that we face are usually too great for us to handle on our own. Our strength, might, resource and intellect do not always match up to the forces that are against us. When we present our case to God through prayers we acknowledge that God is all powerful, stronger and more capable of handling our situation better than we could ever do. And in order for God to fight your battles, we need to come to that place of surrendering everything over to God so that He may handle our situation according to His way.
Is there anything in your life that you feel you can’t get over, or you are facing something that makes you feel you can’t overcome or you got a barrier in front of you that you just can’t find a way through? Well, if that’s you then God has a message for you: “Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the battle is not yours but God’s.” By now you may have strived to do it your own way but it hasn’t worked out, because you are doing it alone. You don’t need to do life alone and you also don’t need to carry your burdens all alone all you got to do is bring God into your life and He will help you. God will fight for you.
Let go of the fear and doubt that is in you and make room for God to operate in your life. “The Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.” - Isaiah 30:18
