Living ready
“Be ready for whatever comes,
dressed for action and with your lamps lit.” – Luke 12:35
When preparing for
camping, there are essential things that one must carry along which will help
you during your entire period of camping. In your luggage you will probably
have heavy clothing for cold weather, raincoat for rainy weather, torch and
lamps when the sun falls, first aid kit when you get hurt, maps and compasses
for direction, and hunting knife for cutting and hunting. Without some of these
things, your entire camping periods would be difficult and challenging.
In our spiritual walk,
we also need to be fully prepared with proper gear that would help us in our
time of need. In Luke 12:35, Jesus is encouraging us to “be ready for whatever comes” to
us in life. Whatever things may be, good or bad; we need to be ready and
prepared to withstand, endure and conquer whatever
that comes against us. At some point in life, we shall be faced with various
trials of life, things that are meant to pull us down, weaken our spirit, and
discourage us.
But when we are fully
prepared for battle with the help of God, then we can conquer whatever that
comes against us. Getting ready for action not only involves the outward
appearance but also to be mentally prepared. This is where our spiritual
muscles get into work. It calls for praying, fasting, trusting in God and doing
what is right even though it seem difficult.
How prepared are you
against the works of the devil? How prepared are you to handle the difficult
situations in life? The enemy loves to attack us through fear and worry and it
all happens in the mind. The good news is, we are not empty-handed for we are
fully equipped with scriptures from the Bible to help us endure, and overcome
the challenges and temptations of life. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light
to my path.”
You are more likely to
stumble and fall when you walk in the dark. However, when you have a lamp with
you, you are able to see the path that you are walking on, and avoiding the
paths that are full of danger. This is because you are able to see what is around
you. The word of God works the same way to us when we keep God’s words close to
us. God’s word helps us in choosing the right path away from danger, it helps
us in making the right choices, when we feel weak and it empowers us to
withstand and overcome the power of darkness.
The bible has everything
that you may need whenever you are faced with various trials. By taking time to
study the word of God, and applying it into our lives it helps you grow and
strengthening your faith in God. When you have the word of God with you, and
using it as a lamp to your feet, it helps you from falling into various forms
of temptations, and keeping you in the path of righteousness. Let the word of
God prepare you, equip you and be the light to your life.
Father God, may your word continue
to light my path leading me to righteousness, and helping me in every aspect of
my life. Amen.
