Follow Me

“Follow Me” – Luke 9:59

Jesus is calling each one of us to follow Him. Not just walking into His footsteps but to be more like Him. It is not a matter of being called His disciples, but it’s about following His teachings, relying on Him, having faith in Him and living a life that is good and well pleasing to God. We are all privileged to receive His calling, His invitation to partake into the Kingdom of God.

“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head” Birds live in their nests, a place where it is comfortable, warm and safe from other external dangers. Jesus is calling us out of our comfort zones and sending us out “as lambs among wolves.” Luke 10:3. His desires are for you and me to have eternal life, and to live a life that reflects the true nature of God. This means letting go the wrong beliefs that we have, laying aside our evil ways in order to adapt His character.

When you decide to follow Jesus, not everyone will like it. People are going to judge you, criticize you, hate you, and even plan evil against you. You will face challenges of various kinds. However, this shouldn’t weaken your love for God, nor discourage you from believing and trusting in God. Since you have made a decision to follow Christ and putting your life in the Hands of God, He said: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”- Hebrew 13:5. This is something worth rejoicing about when you know deep in your heart that you are never alone. God is always with you, and no matter the challenges or trials that come against you, He will never forsake you. You are His prized possession and He loves you so much.

Choosing to follow Jesus means forgetting what lies behind. Sometimes you may be tempted to look back at the life you left behind, the friends you used to have, the places you used to go, or the things you used to do and have that desire to go back to your former life. Jesus is teaching us, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62. It is difficult to leave your life going forward while still focused on what lies behind. Philippians 4:13, “forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead”

God has greater things set ahead for each one of us when we decide to follow Him; not just material things but also spiritual things. If we could only see what God sees in us then we wouldn’t settle for less. We would strive for more and the good that lies ahead and becoming what God wants us to be.

Trust God, He knows what He is doing. You don’t have to worry about any unknown territories or when you find yourself in unfamiliar grounds or situations. God is right there with you closer than you think. Let Him guide you through to the path of righteousness. May we take that first step of faith and follow Jesus. God Loves you and be Blessed
