Whatever God says, Do It!
“Whatever He says to you, Do it” – John 2:5
The first miracle that Jesus performed was done at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. At this wedding Jesus was part of the invited guests. In today’s world, wedding ceremonies are still important to us. Just like any other ceremony, we get the opportunity to invite other people to celebrate with us. What’s important, Jesus was invited to this wedding. How often do we invite God into our activities, the occasions that are so important to us? Not just in bigger things but also the activities that seem less important; do we invite God to part-take in such activities?
While at the wedding, they ran out of wine. So, Mary mother of Jesus went to Him and said, “They have no wine.” In life, there will always be a time when we ran short of something, when we fill incomplete or when we are in want of something. Just like Mary, when we find ourselves in knotty situations it’s important that we first go to God for guidance, and assistance. Who do you go to when you face tricky situations? Knowing that the presence of God is with you in everything that you do, becomes easier to go before Him and ask for help. That’s what Mary did. She knew what Jesus could do and the Mighty power that He had.
When Jesus was informed of the problem at hand, He answered her by saying, “My hour has not yet come.” However, this didn’t stop Mary from believing in Jesus. She then turned to the servants and said, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Many times, we have prayed to God to fulfil the desires of our hearts, we take our problems to Him but the answer we get is: the timing isn’t right, you are ahead of schedule. You may ask for the right thing but the timing isn’t right.
I liked the attitude that Mary had and what she said, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Are we able to humble ourselves before the Lord and accept whatever He says concerning our petitions that are before Him? You may have prayed to God concerning a desire in your heart; but are you humble and willing to accept God’s answer such as a “YES”, “WAIT”, or “NO.” You may pray to God concerning your desires and along with it are expectations of how you want God to do it. But, is your heart willing to yield to God’s will? Or are you going to hold resentment against God because He didn’t do how you expected Him to do it?
As Mary said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it,” should also be a challenge to us. That whatever the Lord says to me, I shall do it. This means doing what God says, without questioning God, without grumbling or mumbling in your heart. A lot of times God may ask or command you to do things that don’t really make sense in the natural, but the question is; are you really willing to obey? For with obedience comes a miracle. Whatever it is that God is asking you to do, just do it.
