Remembering The Miracles...
Surely, I
will remember your wonders of the old. - Psalm 77:11
What do you do when the
storm hits your boat? Just like the disciples of Jesus who panicked and got
struck by fear when the storm hit their boat; we also act the same way when we
face trials of life. Trials come in different forms, and when we are faced with
such challenges our first reaction is to fear and worry. When troubles come
where should we get the strength to persevere, strength to hope and stay in
faith?
We are encouraged in Psalm
77, to always remember the great wonders of the LORD which He did for us in the
past. David writing this psalm was also in distress, but he found it necessary
to remember the goodness of God, the great wonders that God did for him and his
forefathers. He continues to say, “This
is my anguish; but I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most
High.” I like the attitude David had. Our attitude should be: I may be
suffering right now, but God I remember how you helped me before. I may be ill
now, but God I remember how you saved my life before. I don’t see a way, but
God I remember the days you opened new doors for me. I may lack now, but God I
remember how you have been faithful towards me with your provision.
What great wonders do
you remember that God did for you? Do you remember the time He gave you a job
when you didn’t have one? Do you remember the time God healed you when the
sickness was supposed to take your life? Do you remember the time when God
provided a way for you even when you had nowhere to run? Do you remember the
time when God enabled you to give birth safely to your child? Do you remember
the time you felt God’s presence when you felt so lonely and needed some
comfort?
Remembering the great
things that God did for us in the past rekindles our faith and hope in the
Lord. It gives us the strength to endure through the difficult trials of life,
it also strengthen our will to finish what God started in our lives. There’s
strength, hope, faith and joy in remembrance of God’s goodness. Do not forget
the things God did for you. It’s interesting to note that, the disciples of
Jesus had just witnessed Him healing the sick, raising the dead, healing the
leapers and turning water into wine and moments later when the storm hit their
boat they thought they were going to die! Why? because they had forgotten the
miracles of Jesus hence their lack of faith.
Let this birth the
attitude of gratitude in our hearts. To always appreciate and show gratitude
for the faithfulness and goodness of God. We shouldn’t let God’s miracle become
so obvious and so common that we develop the spirit of ungratefulness and
complaining in our hearts. This is what happened to the Israelites after
walking out of Egypt. From time to time, God showed them Mighty wonders, like
parting the red sea, manna falling down from heaven, turning bitter waters into
sweet, or making a stream in the dessert and yet they continued to complain.
They made God’s miracles so common that they forgot about what God did for
them.
The challenge is for us
to always remember the good that God did for us, also share the testimonies with
others the things that God did for you. Let it be known to everyone how God has
been good to you. Show gratitude for all that He has done, and draw strength
from remembering His goodness in times of trouble. I pray that you will look
back and identify the times God came through for you. Let it be a reminder for
you that there is Mighty God up in heaven who cares for you. Be blessed!
