Let Go of Guilt
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10
Human beings are not perfect. Due to our imperfection, we make mistakes from time to time. Through our mistakes we get the opportunity to learn, improve and grow. However, this also becomes an opportunity for the devil to come in and steal your joy and peace from you while blinding you with self-judgment. The enemy does this by planting recurring thoughts of guilt and self-judging thoughts in your mind. Guilt has a funny way of sneaking up on you, slowly draining your energy and without you realizing what is consuming you.
When mistakes are done, the devil likes it when we feel guilty about our shortcomings. He loves it when you feel sorry for yourself, or when you beat yourself down for the mistakes you’ve done. In the process, you feel like you are not enough, that you can never accomplish anything, that you should do something more, or you feel you can’t do anything right. No. This shouldn’t be you. You must understand that these are works of the devil working in your mind. He only comes to steal, kill and destroy your joy and peace. The devil doesn’t like anything good working in you and the only way to destroy it is through your mind.
You must guard your heart and mind and not give the enemy a foothold in our mind. The mind is where the devil will always attack first. Jesus came so that we may have a life; a life full of joy and peace that comes in abundance. And that is what the devil keeps trying to steal from us through guilt. You must let go of guilt in order to enjoy the good things that God has for you. No one can live happy and guilty at the same time; you must choose one and let go of the other. “Guilt does not change the past nor make the future better. It does not help others or ourselves nor fix the problems. What guilt does, is to blind us from the ability to change, grow and improve. It is time that we let go of the guilt.” – Jessica Ortner
You may not have lived up to your own expectations, or other people’s expectations. But, it’s alright. First forgive yourself and go before God and ask Him to also forgive you. Next let go of the guilt and embrace the gift of forgiveness from God and let Him help you learn and grow from the mistakes. God forgives our mistakes and remembers them no more. Don’t bring up something that God had already forgiven and forgotten just to beat yourself down.
Show gratitude for what you have and what God has done in your life. Be grateful for whatever good that is in your life. Acknowledge what God says about you. You are enough, you are more than a conqueror, you are loved, you are talented, you are well able, you are fully equipped, you are a masterpiece, and you are the child of the Most-High God.
“Guilt is always hungry, don’t let it consume you.”
