Home, Safe and Sound

“God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1

We live in a world that is dangerous, unsafe and chaotic. Problems and enemies continue to surround us; they have set their traps before us so that we may fall. Going through the pressures of life can sometimes be overwhelming, we feel like we can’t bear the weight on our shoulders any longer. So, we long for a place where we can hide, a place where we can call home, a safe place where we can find rest, and a place where we are fully protected. And that place we can only find in God. “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and horn of my salvation, my stronghold” – Psalm 18:2.

In times of trouble, who do you turn to, where do you go, and who do you call for help? Trials of life will always come upon us in one way or another. And when we are faced with such difficult challenges, we get tempted to think that we are fighting the battle alone. Fighting the challenges of life alone can be overwhelming and exhausting. In your weakest moments when you feel alone, surrounded, with nowhere to run; it is important that you call upon the name of God for help. God is our refuge, our helper, our fortress and our salvation.

Do not be tempted to think that you are alone, that the problems before you are there to finish you off. No. Be encouraged, for “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”- Psalm 34:18. When you cry out for help, the Lord hears your cry and He will come to deliver you from it. When you are under God’s protection, you feel safe, secured, and peaceful with songs of joy in your heart. Even though the problems that you continue to face are still there, you are no longer worried or shaken by them; you are at peace because you are under God’s protection.

Home is where you feel safe, home is where you find peace, and home is where the enemy can’t attack you. God is home for us. His protection is something we can always tap into when we call upon Him. He restores our strength when we felt weak, He fights our battles when we felt outnumbered, He refreshes our soul, He gives us the hope for victory when we felt hopeless, and He also puts songs of salvation and victory in our hearts.

Whenever you feel outnumbered, when you run out of options, the best thing you and I should do is to run to God. Let Him fight your battles, you don’t have to do it alone. Let God help you in areas where you can’t do it on your own. Just like the prodigal son, we can always go back home to a place where there’s provision, protection, peace, and joy. Our heavenly Father has His arms open wide ready to welcome us back into His fortress despite the wrong choice that we made. When we come to Him with a repenting heart, He’s more than willing to forgive our sins.

Think about this, when our kids are in trouble, scared and threatened and the first thing they do is to run to the parent for defense, protection, and help. And after we’ve helped them, and protected them from whatever problem that threatened them; they simply go about their life bragging to other kids about how great and powerful their parents are. If our children can ran to us for protection and help in times of trouble; how much more is our Heavenly Father willing to do when we are quick to turn to Him when life threatens us?

It is my prayers that we should always call upon the name of God for help in times of trouble. Putting our trust on earthly things is doomed to fail. Our trust should solely be in God, our only Fortress and Refuge that will never be shaken or fail. When we run to God in times of trouble, He not only fights our battles but also He restores our strength and puts a new song of deliverance in our hearts. Be Blessed.

“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” – Psalm 32:7
