God of Second Chances

“It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. Lamentations 3:22 [Amplified]

Many times we have made mistakes in life. Whether small or big mistakes, we can admit that we have gone against what is expected of us. In the realization of the mistakes that we’ve done, sometimes we find it hard to forgive ourselves. We see ourselves not worthy of forgiveness or not deserving any second chance in life. However, the Bible talks about the unending love of God; which forgives our sins and gives us a second chance in life. The story of Peter, the disciple of Jesus is one the examples that show the forgiving love of God and how He gives second chances to His people.

We know Simon Peter as one of the closest disciple of Jesus. When Jesus was arrested, Peter openly denied that he ever knew Jesus. When he was confronted publicly about him being in the company of Jesus, he said; “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” He literally denied Jesus three times. And when the cock crew, the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Can you imagine the shock on Peter’s face when he realized what he had done? He went and cried bitterly. The weight of the mistake that he had must have been heavy upon him.

Like Peter, we’ve also made some mistakes in life. And very often we think, “Man, I blew it this time, there’s no way am getting another chance, or what have I done? There’s no way I’ll ever be forgiven for my mistakes, or I am done! I’ve lost the only chance I had. This is the end of me, no one will ever take me seriously. So, we end up carrying the weight of shame, guilt and pain in our hearts. Because we know, we don’t deserve any forgiveness. But the good news is; our Heavenly Father is so gracious and loving to grant us another second chance; a second chance to make our crooked ways straight.

Who would have thought that apostle Peter who denied Jesus three times would help establish the foundation of the church and the keys of the kingdom of heaven will be given to him? God gives us second chances. It is important that we drop the burden of shame and guilt off our shoulders in order to receive His gift of forgiveness. See every second chance that God gives you as His ways of expressing His greater love for you. Behind every second chances that God gives, there’s love, mercy and forgiveness.

At the cross, we received a second chance. Christ died at the cross in our place so we may have eternal life. Each one of us received a second chance to come before God, and repenting our sins. Another second chance to put aside our old ways that are holding us back from enjoying the good life that God intends for us. Jesus Christ is perfect. We are called to be more like Him; however, we often fall short in our ways. But each day, the grace of God is renewed so that you and I may have a second chance to be more like Christ Jesus. Be Blessed.

“It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 [Amplified]
