Don't give up on God's Calling
“Be confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6
Have you ever faced any form of opposition in your life? You have this burning desire in your heart to begin and accomplish the dreams that God put in you. You know with certainty you have the anointing to do something greater, something that would bring a positive impact in other people’s lives. As soon as you begin your dream’s journey, you are faced with various oppositions. Oppositions that are meant to stop you from becoming who God created you to be. If this is you, then the story of Jesus in the gospel of Luke will be able to bring some encouragement to you.
In Luke 4:14-30, Jesus goes back to Nazareth his hometown where He had been brought up. As was His custom, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood to read the scriptures. He was handed the book of Isaiah to which he read, “The spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set to liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” Luke 4:18-19.
This basically set the theme of His mission. However, those who were in the synagogue didn’t like His message. They even mocked Him saying; ‘is this not Joseph’s son?’ Many times in life we have faced such opposition. Where we get mocked for doing what God has called us to do. Simply because our past is too familiar to them that they begin to ask: ‘What makes you think you can change the world? Don’t you come from the poorest areas we know? What makes you think you can start that business, you are not even qualified? You were raised by single parent, what makes you think you will ever get married? We know your history and the mistakes that you did, who are you to preach the gospel to us?’
Very often we get discouraged and hurt when such words are spoken to us, particularly by people whom we know or those who are closest to us. Friends, be not discouraged. Just as Jesus knew and understood that He had the anointing, a yes from God to do the will of the Father in Heaven; you too need not be discouraged by the opposition and the rejections you may face. You have the anointing from God, but they don’t the same anointing that you have.
Just like Jesus, when you are fulfilling the will of God in your life, you will definitely face rejections, and oppositions that are meant to discourage you. Instead of fighting back trying to prove to them, just let it go. Shake off the hurt, the discouragement and move on. Keep doing what God asked you to do. Keep up the good attitude, it will not do you any good if you carry the hurt with you, it will only prevent you from achieving your purpose. We can learn this valuable lesson from Jesus. When the Nazarenes disagreed with Jesus, rejected Him and even threw Him out; Jesus could have performed just one miracle to prove to them what He was saying is true. But, He didn’t. It only required them to believe. Part of God’s calling in your life is not to prove other people wrong but to do God’s will and His Will only so that the good fruit of your work may bring glory to His name.
In God’s eyes, you are the right person to do His will for the glory of His name. God see’s you as a masterpiece, capable, valuable, and a person of integrity. If you had given up on the dreams that God put in you; be encouraged it’s never too late to start again. You don’t have to prove anything, just be you and do what God asked you to do. Rekindle the hope in you, and let God be your Shepherd as He leads you to the right path. Be Blessed!
