Do Not Fret
“Be
anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” – Philippians 4:6
What are you worried about? Who taught you how to worry? Worrying about something has become so natural to us that we sometimes do it without even realizing it. Many times we worry about the finances, our health, the future, we worry about our children and what will become of them, or we worry about the things that we lack. We have made worrying become a lifestyle. So, we perceive anyone who does not worry about anything as not being normal.
The term worry from oxford dictionary means to distress or afflict with mental anxiety. A lot of times I have caught myself worrying about many things. Some of the things I worry about are based on false reality I have developed in my mind. They are false, baseless and mostly driven by fear. Fear is the source of our worry. The things that we fear the most are the things that we worry about the most. However, the Bible encourages us not to worry about anything.
When we worry, we are actually opening a door for fear to come in to torture our minds. To worry is to give yourself to suffering and torture thinking about something that has or has not yet been done. You must be smart enough to realize that worrying doesn’t solve any of your problems; it only takes away your peace and joy while spinning your mind round in circles. So, what is the antidote to worrying?
Paul writes, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Prayers and thanksgiving are the way to go about when you find yourself worrying about something. Challenges will always come our way, and whenever we are confronted with a problem the first thing should be turning to God for guidance, comfort and wisdom. Allowing yourself to be worried about every problem that comes your way it actually shows that you do not need God, that you can find your way out on your own. As usual, we make terrible choices when we do things on our own without God’s leadership.
1 Peter 5:7, encourages us in “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” Whatever problem you may have, big or small take it all to Jesus. He cares about you and He would love that you come to Him presenting your case to Him. His greatest desires are for you to dwell in His peace, the peace that He gave you and me. “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27. God knows every solution to all your problems, He needs you and me to rely on Him, depend on Him and have faith in Him. We are never going to enjoy His peace and joy that He gave us if we allow ourselves to worry.
Jesus is inviting each one of us, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” to come to Him all who are burdened with the struggles of life so we may have His peace. This is an invitation that we cannot refuse. Who wants to be heavily burdened by worrying and fear when we can enjoy life despite the storms that constantly hits us when we have the peace of Jesus within us?
When you worry, fear tells you to look around but faith tells you to look up to God who has seen the road ahead. It is my prayers that you will find comfort and peace in Jesus’ words, ‘Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid’. May the peace of Christ Jesus guard your mind and heart against thoughts of fear and worry. “In everything, give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”- I Thessalonians 5:18
Be Blessed!
